January 2004 - December 2005: Graduate fellowship in Marine Ecology at the Marine Biology Laboratory of Trieste (LBM – via Piccard, 54; 34010 Trieste, Italy);
January – December 2003: Collaboration contract at the Marine Biology Laboratory of Trieste (LBM), within the framework of the project “Environmental and sanitary risk evaluation associated with pathogen microrganisms in coastal ecosystems” promoted by Health Ministry and ISPESL;
May 2002 – January 2003: Graduate fellowship ENAIP Friuli Venezia Giulia financed by Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, European Social Found and the Italian Ministry for Work and Social Politics, carried out at the Marine Biology Laboratory of Trieste (LBM). Technical skills and competencies:
Utilization of the main Microbiology Laboratory equipment, especially Bacteriology tools and techniques useful to detect and estimate pollution indicators, pathogens marine pathogens (Vibrio sp.); spectrophotometer; depression filtration systems.
Involved in several oceanographic cruises, preparation of field laboratories, sampling activities (physical/chemical/biological parameters) and analyzes (chemical and biological parameters).
Computer skills: use of Microsoft® Office, Statistics programs (Grapher, Surfer, Ocean Data View).
Synthetic description of the research activity in Marine Microbial Ecology
My research activity focused on microbiological analysis in water, sediment and edible bivalves and in particular on the estimation of few bacterial functional groups microbial indicators of anthropic pollution; besides, studies about detection and characterization of potential pathogenic (for humans or fishes) vibrios and their ecology. Recently I have been involved in the European Project MEDSEA in the frame of experimental activity on the carbonate system in the Gulf of Trieste (Northern Adriatic Sea) focusing my research activity on plankton community respiration.
