Research activities include marine biogeochemical modelling, focused on development of biogeochemical-transport models for marginal, coastal seas and estuaries; development and use of methodologies for data assimilation, sensitivity analysis, calibration and validation of models. Activities include also statistical analysis (timeseries analysis and multivariate analysis) of large hydrodynamical and biogeochemical dataset of marginal and coastal seas and estuaries. Case studies investigated are the Adriatic Sea, the Northern Adriatic Sea, the Gulf of Trieste and the Venice Lagoon.
Aims of scientific investigations are the description of time and space variability of trophic status, physical and biological parameters, the quantification of carbon and nutrient cycles and the analysis of relationship between physical processes, biogeochemical cycles and external forcings in coastal and marine ecosystems.
